Jean-Paul Boodhoo on Demystifying Design Patterns

Just finished watching the third installment Demystifying Design Patterns with Jean-Paul S. Boodhoo on dnrtv.com. This is really cool stuff and you get to see TDD and refactoring in action as part of the package. Excellent weekend entertainment!

Check out the series at dnrtv.com!

Silverlight control adapters

As long as I am on the mixin' and matching of technologies, I wonder what would happened if I tried writing a Silverlight control adapter say for the menu ASP .Net control? The control adapter would spit out XAML for use on the Silverlight canvas. I've got to give that a try one of these days.

Silverlight in the sidebar

I've been wanting to play with a few technologies as of late but never got around to it. Two of these are the Windows Vista Sidebar and Silverlight. So here I am, trying to kill two birds with  one stone.

I was curious if Silverlight works in the sidebar (why wouldn't it?) and to satisfy my curiosity I've taken one of the samples that ship with the Silverlight SDK and transformed it in a Sidebar gadget. You can see the results on the right, sans the animation of course. Some tweaking was required using Expressions Blend 2 May preview, so I got the chance to try that out too. Pretty nifty piece of software! I can think of a couple more cool things I could do with Silverlight in the sidebar.

I've uploaded the gadget files here for those who want to check it out: SilverlightClock.zip
